Storm Surge Zones
If you live on a barrier island or on the Intracoastal Waterway, you will need to evacuate in a hurricane.
Officials estimate it would take 4 straight days to evacuate all of South Florida, an impossible and impractical idea when a hurricane's landfall is certain only a day or two out. If you live inland, your best option is to stay put unless ordered to leave.
